Walking, thinking, praying…

27°, just before 7 am, headed out on my morning walk. Dr. Lehmitz told me last week that walking was my best medicine. That’s what I’m doing, out taking my medicine.

It’s not just walking for me, it’s also a prayer/thinking time.  I confess, I have both a wandering and wondering mind. As I start my sequence of praying, for my family corporately and individually, for friends, for those with needs that I’m aware of, and for our country, my mind often wanders.

For praying I use the acrostic ACTS. A-adoration of God, C- Confession (this is where my wandering goes), T-Thankful for the many blessings God has given me, S- Supplication for those needs I’m aware of.

At “C,” I confess my wandering mind and move on to “Thankful.”

I have so much to be thankful for.

But this morning I was thinking about the message series from Pathway Church in Wichita. It’s one of our Sunday streaming services.

The series is in Genesis studying the call of Abraham. Those are very special verses for me because as a new believer I was finally able to understand a little bit about God and it helps me understand what is going on in our crazy world, both then and now.

In Genesis 12 verses 1-3 God gives Abraham (Abram at the time) some promises. Those promises include you and I. Those promises are what the rest of the Bible is about.

God promised Abram land, seed, and blessing , read it with me.

“Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.”- Genesis 12:1-3

Do you see it?

Land, is pretty straightforward and is further defined as you will read in Chapter 15. It is a land which they have never completely possessed.

Seed, that’s Abraham’s  future descendants and the nation they will become.

And Blessing, those who bless Abraham and his descendants will be blessed, those who curse Abraham and his descendants will be cursed. This is where you and I fit in if we aren’t blood descendants of Abraham.

And isn’t that exactly what history tells us about the past and the news tells us about today?

The blessing thing is a picture of God’s grace and we aren’t even out of Genesis yet!

So there’s a little bit of my thinking for today.

While I was in the thinking/praying process I heard some geese. I saw the small flock in the air and  I snuck, difficult for someone my size, over behind one of the large evergreens to try and get an image of them landing. I couldn’t find them in the zoom of my camera lens so you will just have to settle for a couple of them already on the mist covered water.

Then I moved on to “T” and “S.”

Have a great day!
