About What I think is…

Welcome to “What I think is…

I grew up at a time when it was OK to have an opinion. That opinion might in some cases be different from yours, and yet we all got along just fine. Now, for some reason it seems, that’s not working very well. So I wanted you to know what I think. If you don’t like it, that’s fine. You do like it, it’s even finer. It’s not my intent to hurt anyone’s feelings or insult them in any way. This, is simply “What I think.”

What I think comes from growing up in a small town in the Oklahoma Panhandle with a Mom and Dad, a sister, and two brothers. We were a farming family, going to church, we went to school, living in a neighborhood where there were other kids and we all played together. I graduated High School and went to college, but my Uncle Sam wanted me to serve in the armed forces. (This was during the time of the war in VietNam.) My grades were not good enough for a deferment. Consequently, my college career came to an abrupt end.

I spent seven years proudly serving in the US Navy in a special communications group, and spent time at a remote site in Iceland and then four and a half years in Scotland. My wife is Scottish. We have three daughters and 8 grandchildren.

Scotland for me was addictive.

We (my wife and I) started out in the TV and appliance business. That eventually into a business providing automation communications equipment sales and service to the oil and gas industry, electrical power industry, and some larger municipalities. We provided services and equipment in most states west of the Mississippi, a few east, and I even made a few trips overseas.

Initially, it was just the two of us, raising our young family and trying to pay the bills. Eventually, we had three full-time employees and a few good contractors. I like to say we were entrepreneurs before that was cool. In fact we didn’t know what that was at the time, but now I do and I think many folks today have the wrong idea of what that really means. After about thirty-five years, we became an overnight success.

We are retired now. I have some time on my hands, that’s one of the reasons I’m telling you “what I think.” We are, after all, in this together.

My wife and I celebrated a year ago our 50th Wedding Anniversary. We’ve come along way since that simple ceremony in the Dundee Registrar’s office that long sgo April day.
