Security alert….

First thing this morning, my brand spanking new Samsung S24+ had a Security Update.

Then, a bit later, I turned on my IPad 2 to read from the Book of Ezekiel with my friend Matthew Henry and low-and-behold if it didn’t do the same thing.

Two different Operating Systems, two updates.

Boiled down to its lowest common denominator (I know I date myself there), it’s to keep other folks out of your personal data.

I remember being in a worship service at 1st Southern Baptist in Del City, Oklahoma, a few decades ago. Dr. Tom Elliff was the Pastor. He began his morning message by saying, “We live in a fallen world, if you doubt that reach into your pocket and see how many keys you have.”They are there,” he said, “to keep other people out of your stuff.” (paraphrased 😎)

It’s an excellent analogy. I would just change one thing, and I’m sure Dr. Tom would agree that today we don’t just “live in a fallen world,” we are living in an evil one.

All the passwords, fingerprints, facial recognition, two-step authorization, and more are the new keys to your private data. Someone is always looking for your data and a way to get it.

No one is really safe.

Back in the day, they wanted your car, your house, your cash, and jewelry. Today, they just want your data and your mind, which will get them all the rest…and more.

Your only really safe place in this increasingly mixed up and dangerous world is knowing God. Nothing that is happening is a surprise to Him.

You can trust Him.

Roy McCoy, the Amarillo weatherman from decades ago, used to tell us what the weather was going to be and then close his forecast with, “Remember, Roy said it would be like this!”

We need to remember; the Bible says it will be like this.

Keep your keys, your passwords, etc, in a safe place, but put your real trust in God
