Christian Hallberg, Pathway Wichita had an excellent message today (02/23/2025) from Paul’s letter to the Romans.
He spoke of the fact that as believing Christians, we in Christ are a new creation, we effectively have a new address. He used an illustration I could easily identify with, moving to a new house…with a new address.
In our small town, some 24 years ago we moved to a new house. As I write this Sunday morning, that new address is still is our very warm and comfortable home.
But after moving to the new house, I would occasionally find myself at the old address without consciously thinking about where I was going. The tendency to go the old way was strong.
But I no longer lived on Jackson Street. Over time, I was able to redirect and control my thoughts and direction, so I always arrived at my new address.
I am like that spiritually as well. After believing in Christ I received a new address. I have to intellectually and sometimes even physically resist the urge to go to the old place where I lived for so long.
Now Bubba, our cat, on the other hand, resisted living at the new address. His actions required me to continually almost go and bring him back to our new home. He wanted to be at the old address so badly that he’d even hide when he got there. His favorite place was in a corner of the roof. But I always found him.
So don’t be Bubba. Know also that if the old address still has attraction for you, and you find yourself there again, someone will come and get you.
