Last week, your Mom came down the hall with this coming from her phone’s playlist:
I was instantly transported. The playlist was the one you girls (Angela, Ashley, Aspen) had put together for the wonderful anniversary celebration you “sort of” suprised us with last year. Lots of memories, but this particular one we didn’t really have time to dwell on then.
The music instantly brought back memories of a pub in Dundee that we frequented “back in the day.” It was the Small World. A gentleman played the guitar and sang there on a regular basis. His name was Jimmy Mathers. He played that song everytime we came in. It was Ike our theme song and we always felt special. I’m sure he played it because when I tried to explain where I was from, I usually just said “130 miles north of Amarillo TX.”
Here we are now almost 51 years later and the memory is still vivid. It wasn’t vivid enough however that we could remember all the details, location, etc. about the pub. So I turned to our go-to-gal Jackie Campbell in Dundee and she bailed me out once again. She even found a comment from a gentleman named Mathers who remembered his Uncle Jimmy used to to play there.
Small World is it not? (pun intended)
So it was real! At our age you can’t be too sure. It’s always good to have a great memory and be able to confirm that it actually happened!
Jackie was also the one who helped us get the framed picture that had been featured on the front page of the Dundee Evening Telegraph that day.
Thank you again Angela, Ashley, and Aspen for that special day you made happen near this time last year.
