I am broken…

A broken door needing a push…

“Push, I am broken,” says the sign on the automatic exit door at Mills Foods our very efficient, very friendly, and much appreciated small town Super Market.

As I thought about the sign, my thoughts went to how that door is an example of our world today.  Few would disagree our world is broken.

At least the door had a sign.

We all know of things in the larger world, and possibly in our own smaller world that aren’t working very well. Are you a bit like me, not always sure what to do about it?

Wendell’s sign may provide an answer, “Push!”

Could something that simple be the answer to the world’s problems?  Could it be the answer to your personal problems? (I do know you have some)

It might be.

The instructions on the sign were simple. “Push.” How hard could it be?

You just put your hand on the door, exert a bit of pressure, and the door will open. It takes just a little effort to get the “broken” door to do what a door is supposed to do…open. I know, I’ve done it.

Will a push fix your personal problem(s)?  Will a push fix the world?  Realistically probably not but it could be a start.

Has there been a time in your life when you, like the sign, could say “I’m broken?” Maybe someone came along with a push and you were able, like the broken door, to open?  Sometimes, it just takes a little push, that little bit of extra effort.

Unfortunately, some of us running around are in many ways broken, but we have no sign, or we may not even realize we’re broken.  And others don’t know you are broken. They aren’t aware you may need a “push.”

Maybe we need to be more perceptive.  Maybe we need to pay more attention.  Maybe we need to take some time to listen to others.  The sign saying “Broken” may be there, you/I just haven’t taken the time to see it.

My wife reminds me that you really don’t know what kind of day someone might be having, so be kind.

A kind word, a caring word can be like the push on the Mill’s Foods exit door.

Push and the door will open.

Maybe Danny Gokey says it best in the words from his song We All Need Jesus, “Were all broken people Don’t we all need Jesus?”

Have a great day and remember, look for the signs.
