Hear ye now what the Lord saith; Arise, contend thou before the mountains, and let the hills hear thy voice.
Hear ye, O mountains, the Lord’s controversy, and ye strong foundations of the earth: for the Lord hath a controversy with his people, and he will plead with Israel.
O my people, what have I done unto thee? and wherein have I wearied thee? testify against me.
For I brought thee up out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed thee out of the house of servants; and I sent before thee Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.
Micah 6. 1,2,3,4
Pastor Scudder (Quentin Road Baptist) used Micah 6.1 and 2 in his nessage, and I then read on.
It’s interesting but not surprising to find that God “has a controversy with his people.” The controversy seems to stem from the fact that His people seem to think He hasn’t done enough for them.
In V4, Micah speaking for God, starts to list some of the things God has already done for his people. It will be an expansive list. You can read the rest for yourself.
It caused me to think of the things I hould be grateful for…but am not. I, like God’s people, have a short memory. God and others have done amazing things for me. God in His graciousness even asks his people to “testify agsinst me.” “Tell me what I have done wrong.”
Can I fault Him for not giving me more of what I think I want? I’m sure there is room for God to have a controversy with me.
Give some thought this New Year to the things, spiritually, physically, and materially, you have been given that allow you to be who, what, and where you are today.
