The value of unsolicited advice…

There was a post on Instagram recently about enjoying thunderstorms from your front porch.  It brought back some memories.

I quickly “jotted” this down and then couldn’t find the post! I had to do something with it, so here ya go.

It was some decades ago, my family and I were sitting on our covered front porch enjoying an Oklahoma Panhandle thunderstorm. A neighbor lady phoned to say she didn’t think it was safe for us to be out there.

I thanked her for caring and calling, and assured her we’d be OK. I hung up the phone and went back out on the porch.

It was at that moment, with a blinding flash and a resounding crack, lightning hit the steeple of Lutheran Church just across the street, knocking a brick or two off the top.

We decided to take Nellie’s advice and went inside.

You can’t be too careful. One should probably heed advice freely given.
