In the past I walked the golf course nearly every morning, early in the morning. Blackmer Municipal Golf Course is right behind pur house. I keep a record and September 15 of last year was the last day I walk walked, like in exercise walked. I didn’t intend to quit walking, it just worked out that way
Today I started again. I logged 1.73 miles, out on the dry, crunchy, brown, golf course, that’s 3674 steps on the Fitbit. It was 22 degrees, but no real breeze. It was much brighter than I prefer when I walk, I was waiting for it to warm up a bit. I like to see the sun coming up, not already be up. I prefer it not to be in my eyes yet when walking east.
I used to walk in the dark or near dark but that was before Joyce saw the skunks in the back yard at night. There are two less now.
In September last year we went to Scotland. I walked while we were there, up behind the wee village of Balmullo to Brian’s Bench and Willie’s Wood. Ashley walked with me a couple of times. It’s hard to keep up with her. She walks with the stride and endurance of a Scottish person which I guess technically she is, born in Dundee and all.
As you follow the wee burn past the village and look back behind you there are impressive views of the North Sea. On Blackmer Municipal Golf Course you have impressive views of the wee pond.
Just a short time after we got home from Scotland Joyce’s kidneys failed and after a midnight life flight, she spent almost 3 weeks in the hospital in Amarillo. It made it difficult to walk.
And then it was cold, really cold, and did I mention windy? Good excuses? I don’t know. They were the ones I used. I remembered a Sunday School teacher once saying, “If you really don’t want to do something, any excuse will work.”
Walking isn’t just exercise time for me, it is also prayer time. I guess you could say it’s both a physical and a spiritual exercise time. I’ve really missed them both.
It’s not that I don’t pray at other times, I just concentrate on it more when walking. My problem is I have a wandering mind. I confess that.
But here is the good news! Weatherbug still shows a 40% chance of rain/snow for the next two days. I like walking in the rain/snow. Scotland toughened me up when I lived there.
